Dolpo, rugged and remote section and one of the
most beautiful treks in the far western corner of
Nepal. Dolpo is a restricted area and needs a
special permit and only groups with organised trek
from a registered agent are allowed. The region is
well described by Peter Mathiessen in 1970 as
account of journey in his classic novel Snow
Leopard. The trek offers interesting people,
places, villages, valleys and serene forest of
pines, oaks and Rhododendrons with numerous high
passes over 3500m. demands a lot of stamina.
This is one of the great adventurous trek to the
mysterious land where the pre-Buddhist Bon-Po
religion is still in practice. The recent Oscar
nominated movie CARAVAN (HIMALAYA as known in the
western countries) was also shot here.
